To position the motor mounts in the correct location relative to the cowl, you will need to
move the top 2 mounting holes. Assemble the motor mount. Mount the lower hole and
reference the top hole location on the mount to determine the new hole location. Push
out the blind nuts in the original top holes by screwing in the mounting bolt and tapping it
with a hammer. They will come out easily. Drill the new holes and mount the blind nuts by using
the mount bolt. Tighten the bolt until the blind nut is firmly seated into the firewall.

 |
Assemble the motor mount as per the photos.
Allow the center section to extend beyond the side brackets by about ¼ inch. |
|
Use the mounting screws provided in the Zen 50 package. Note
the spacer/washer on the mounting screws. These are the adapter rings found in the APC-E prop package.
They happen to be the right thickness to clear the belly pan spring assembly (see photo).
Donˇ¦t forget to use Locktite on the mount bolts. |
 |
|
 |
You can test fit the cowl to make sure
the motor mount is centered. |
|
Now solder the Speed Control to the Hacker Motor.
Either heat shrink the solder joint or cover with electrical tape. Mount the motor with
the 3mm screws that come with the motor. Donˇ¦t forget to apply Locktite to the screws. |
Mount the speed control to the bottom of the motor mount bracket with nylon tie wraps.
This is a good location for airflow and makes the leads to the batteries relatively short. If
you are not using Sermos connectors, you will need 2 battery connectors in series.

 |
Next, assemble the wing onto the fuse. Place battery packs, end to end to determine
approximate location of straps ˇV see photo. The Zen 50 will balance with the end of the
first battery near the beginning of the wing. Epoxy the straps to the fuse and wing as
shown in the photo. Use small wood screws to provide extra bonding.
Note the receiver battery pack. This system does not have a BEC and I donˇ¦t recommend
it. If the power system fails, you want to maintain control of the plane. Having a
separate Rx pack is a good thing.
As a final step, mount the cowl with the screws provided and attach the Graupner spinner
and APC prop. The 60mm spinner is a perfect fit for the Zen 50.
Now you can do a bench test. Remember to hold on tight. Youˇ¦ve got almost 7lbs of
thrust
Enjoy the flight!
